  • ATI confirms dual-GPU for the RV870

ATI has confirmed to the Fudzilla team that the RV870 will feature a dual-GPU version that will become the high-end graphic card model.

ATI seems not to break the tradition, then, and will build their fastest graphic card on a double chip, called RV800, similarly to the HD480 X2 that integrates two RV770 chips in one PCB.

The RV800 chip will feature two RV870 chips which will have complete support to the DirectX 11 and will be manufactured with the 40nm fabrication process, the same of the RV740 featured on the HD 4770. ATI would be speeding up the process to present the new chip before nVIDIA presents their GT300. Based only on the official statements, it’s hard to see which one will be faster, but they should be launched around the same period.
